Using Rag Rugs In Kitchens

by Julio Juarez

Rag rugs are usually home made using rags that are woven so that they create an elongated rug of multi colors. You can purchase rag rugs today for a lot cheaper than you can make them although some people still make their own rag rugs. You can use rag rugs in many ways in your kitchen. They are ideal for use in the kitchen as well as the bathroom because they can be tossed into the washing machine without any type of trouble.

Rag Rugs Under the Sink

One place that you want to put rag rugs in your kitchen is in the area before the sink. If you stand at the sink for any period of time, you will want to have something soft under your feet instead of a hard, tile floor. Rag rugs are also easy to wash and will wear well. You can usually pick up these inexpensive rugs at discount stores as well as online stores for a few dollars and they are well worth the expense.

Rag rugs in formal rooms

They are great decors for complementing the living room, dining room, family room and bedroom, especially with the right colors and designs. You can use them as a furniture pad, either for a single object, such as the coffee table or for one collection, such as the dining table and chairs set. Left as a solitary dcor also works as it can highlight an area or be the focal point of the room.

Rag rugs in doorways

Rag rugs in doorways, especially at the front and back doors, can help prevent dirt, wet stain, mud and foot or shoe prints from tracking on your floor. This is most helpful during rainy days when our shoes can bring instant dirt into the house.

Rag Rugs in Front of the Patio Door

The front door, patio door, bathroom door and in my case, my bedroom door, are areas where you can also put a rag rug. Setting anal-compulsiveness aside, rugs positioned in these areas can safeguard your house from too much dirt. You can wipe your feet or shoes clean before entering the house, particularly if there’s rain. Hence, you can avoid having wet, stained floors. From the backyard or the patio, a rag rug in the entrance to the house will also prevent soil or mud from getting indoors. My dog has been trained to pause on the rag rug before entering and wait for someone to wipe her paws. This started during the rainy season when her wet and soiled paws would grace my floor and I was always cleaning up after her. She knows now that without this prerequisite, she is to stay put in her own house in the backyard, without complaining. Period. Coming out of the bathroom, especially after a bath can mark wet footprints on the floor. A rag rug by the bathroom door is good deterrence for slipping accidents.

These are just some of the uses of rag rugs at home. I’ve implemented all these and I only have positive results thus far. I like that the rugs enhance my living spaces while still maintaining their usefulness around the house.
